I've seen it mentioned on Wilders thatsome regard it as OCD(obsessive compulsive disorder) to scan your computer a lot...but what is too often? Myself, I feel that, depending on your surfing habits, and what software you run, and how quick or possibly inconvenient(to some) a scan can be, then regular scanning is a good and efficacious practice. Especially if like with Prevx a deep scan can be done in anything between about 30 seconds and 6 minutes...my best time is 40 seconds. So, how often do you scan, if at all? This poll applies to quick scans only, please, but all views on this are welcome. I know there was a thread, but that was 6 years ago, so maybe times have changed? Thanks to everyone.
I Scan my system "Daily" with Hitman Pro only. Though i know, my system can't be bypassed easily but still ...
My last system scan was 3 months ago. It is faster and more conclusive to restore an image than to perform a full scan.
I voted "weekly" because that is about how often I do a scan with SuperAntiSpyware Free. However, I only do a scan with NOD32 monthly or when I feel like it. I have no "scheduled" scans. I just scan when I feel like it.
I was daily like 2 weeks before, but now i've settled with once or twice weekly while i sleep and download things
Once for a few weeks with Hitman Pro and quick scan with MWAM. I do not expect to be infected, even without realtime AV, I scan PC just when I am bored.
The security product I use scans the computer daily automatically (quick scans of memory and important place where malware often hides). I perform manual full scan from time to time (e.g. twice per month or so)
I have configured my task manager to do a scan automatically if I am hit by malware. Otherwise I only do a monthly scan before going to my internet Bank for my monthly salary.
I selected Multiple times daily. I have configured avast! and MBAM to do auto scans each day in the wee-wee hours. Now and then (every few days or every other week, depending on where I've been on the net) I will do manual scans with either Hitman Pro or Emsisoft Emergency Kit. It doesn't feel like I scan multiple times daily, because the scans are automatic and they take place while I am sleeping. I'm happy with the level of protection I have in place and the number of scans that are performed, and from all that I've read, that seems to be what really matters... that a user feels safe.
It's been well over a year since I last scanned one of my PCs. If I remember, I last used HouseCall. This PC has not been scanned since I set it up. If for some reason I suspect a problem, I run an integrity check. I've got several batch files that AVs don't like along with about 60MB of archived malware I've used for testing.
I usually don't do a scan unless the computer gets slightly unstable and I suspect something isn't right. My internet activity is sites like Wilder's and other safe places, and my e-mail activity is monitored by Mailwasher. I haven't been infected in about 10 years. To add more protection I have FDISR (original) which can eliminate anything I can't deal with. I will do a chkdisk every month or so as well.
Well, I voted on the "Weekly" option, but I don't usually start any scan myself, unless I suspect of something. Microsoft Security Essentials, which is installed here, does a weekly scheduled full scan when the computer is on but not in use.
People with resident AV are cheating, their PC's is scanned all the time. Although virus and other zoologic species of badware is afraid to come nearby my PC, i still run a weekly on-demand scan
I tend to do a full SAS scan on my laptop monthly & often a quick MSE scan just before close down. The desktop is more or less the same thing but just with MSE at the moment.
