how much ram does xp 32/64x & vista 32/64x support?

    i have upgraded my laptop to 4gb ram,motherboard supports upto 8gb.
    i want to know how much xp 32/64x and vista 32/64x versions supports?
    right now vista home premium shows me only 3gb,but in bios it is 4gb.
    so to utilize the full RAM which suits best?
