A quick Google seems to indicate that this is adware.

If you want phishing "protection" why not just read the address bar?

Why would download.com have this in one of their site advisory things if it has adware?

Care to provide links to back this up? This is the first I hear someone is calling Netcraft Toolbar adware.

btw. I haven't seen ads yet, despite all these years of using it :)

    It isn't funny :'( :D :D
Seriously, do you really need all those security apps? They won't protect from your mistakes/bad decisions.
If you are finding malware with this setup, you should really be worried about your skills to manage a security setup. On the other hand, the performance of your computer must be terribly slow.
    Think about it.

I ordered an Ubuntu Linux CD to try it out so all of this might be in the past. :)

I would not trust the advice or listings of download.com. They gave an "editor's pick" rating to several screensavers distributed by scenicreflections.com. After over a year of trojan downloads and hundreds of negative posts from the SS download.com finally took them off their site.
