    I have just installed SpywareBlaster. The Help files indicate that I don't need to have the application running for it to be working. I ran the program and set it up as I needed and then I exited the program. There is no obvious indication in Windows 2000 Task Manager that the program is running.

    So how do I know it's working??

    Thanks,

    Hi g_tallen, welcome to the forum :)

    That is correct.. no need for it to be 'running', as the program is not a designated Real Time Monitor.

    You see, it sets "killbits" in the Registry, which blocks malware in the database from writing the same to the registry thus causing infection. So therefore, it's a set and forget type of thing, the only input by you now is to check for updates. ;)

    It does not even run in the background at all. Once set, it's done. :)

    As long as you always see that "0 items have been disabled" lines in the main GUI, it's fine. Relax, have a coffee and surf confidentally. :D

    Cheers, TAS

    Tassie,
    What's a "killbits?" And what if there were a number other then 0 in there?

    I saw a screen shot of the the 0 thing. So I know what it looks like.

    Attempting to decide if I need this or not on one of my machines. Thanks.

    Tassie and mercurie;

    I just got referred to you by "snowbound". I just posted essentially the same question under "jlboland". Thanks for your info. I included several ?s about Spybot search and destroy and PC Cillan's firewall, if you can go to that board location. I'm new to this and don't know how to direct you.

    Hi John. ;)

    This forum is the SpywareBlaster and other forum. For your question on

    Spybot S@D, feel free to start a new thread in the Privacy Software forum and your firewall question can be addressed in the Other Firewalls forum.

    I'm just trying to direct u to the proper forums for better attention to these issues. ;)
