Click on your account picture on the start menu and you will be taken to a window where one of the options is to change the account name.

It's not a very good idea to be logged on with an administrator account. If your system security is breached, the malware or intruder would have maximum privileges to make changes.

IMHO you should make another account (with limited privileges and access) for day-to-day use, only using the admin account when you want to make changes to the system.

Change your name as suggested, then create a new admin with strong password. Login as than admin and demote your current account, and if you didn't already, put password on that account as well. That way, you effectively convert your existing admin to standard, without the pain of setting everything up from scratch.

    btw, your sig rocks

    thanks
i will use Pwgen 2.06 to generate a strong password
should i log in every time manually ?

do you mean if i do like cozumel suggested , i have to install my programs again ?
instead , create a new admin user and demote my current account, so i can keep all my programs working

is there a tutorial about it?
i mean i know how i can create a new user , but about demote my current account ? i don't know the right setting to give

    by the way
, if i want to delete an account , will windows 7 or xp delete everything about this accounts ? files, regkeys in short everything
or does it leave folders and other staff

    thanks Seer

If you are the only one using the PC, it is not neccessary.

No, you won't have to install the programs all over, but you would need to set wallpaper, shortcuts, and other related settings (gadgets, etc.)

There is nothing special to it. You just create a new admin, then logged in as that admin you set the account you use every day (your old one) to standard.

When deleting an account, Windows will ask if you want to delete files as well, so you can choose not to.

    Cheers,
