if i delete the tmziu files, the next time i open internet explorer, the homepage changes to another res://*.dll site, with differnt letters replacing the tmziu. That page, however, remains the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Set your Explorer up using the info in this link so that hidden and System files are visible
Also Uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types" box

Use Taskmanager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) to end these running processes if you can
    (or use Process Explorer)
    C:\WINNT\apptm.exe
    C:\WINNT\winlc32.exe

Next, go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit OK.
Scroll down and find the service called "Network Security Service".
If you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then OK and close any open windows.]

Run HijackThis again, push Scan and place a check mark next to the following items using your mouse.
Next, close all browser Windows, and push the 'Fix checked' button in HijackThis

Empty the TIF (Temporary Internet Files)
To do so use Control Panel > Internet Options(or right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Properties)
Click Delete Files on the General Tab - place a check in the Delete all offline content box and then press OK

Delete all the files in (and any subfolders of) the C:\Windows\Temp\ folder

Set your Explorer up using the info in this link so that hidden and System files are visible
Also Uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types" box

    Reboot to SAFE mode
How to start the computer in Safe mode

    Delete the following files:
    C:\WINNT\system32\tmziu.dll
    C:\WINNT\sdktx32.dll
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\IESTART.EXE
    C:\WINNT\winlc32.exe

    Reboot to normal mode

Download https://www.wilderssecurity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=137634 adn rename it from cwsuninst.txt to cwsuninst.reg - double click the file to merge it with the registry

    -----------
Download the latest version of Ad-Aware at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
After installing AAW, and before running the program, you NEED to FIRST update the reference file following these instructions.
    Now do the following:
    - Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:
check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
    - Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine:
Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

    Press "Scan Now"
    - Check option "Use Custom scanning options"
    - Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"
    - Press "Select drives\folders to scan"
    - Select the active partition which is usually C:

Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives...
It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys.
Right-click in that pane and choose "select all"

    Now press "Next" again.
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

    Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot.

Keep your fingers crossed -- this one looks a little different that the model I'm using - but I'm not sure what you've already tried on your own
