it is first created within the Windows environment. If I use the boot CD to create the image, then I can restore an image (starting) from the Windows environment. I need a command line solution that will force True Image to go to a pre-Windows environment to create the image instead of creating it during the active Windows session.

The error I get is that during the final reboot after the restoration, the DOS screen reports:

    File \Windows\System32\winload.exe
    Status: 0xc0000225
The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

This forces me to do a repair job with the original CD.:doubt:

    Dallas Vette,

You might take a look at this thread if you haven't already.
    Restore on Vista requires Repair

In John's and my tests, it seems that once the Vista install is "repaired", further backups and restores of the repaired partition will work without the 0xc0000255 error. I got the same results from backing up from Vista as with the rescue cd & the BartPE cd.

Have you tried to restore a backup made from the repaired partition?

It does now appear that Acronis WILL restore the OS, even if the image is created in the Windows environment!

It never occurred to me to try to do that for a second time because, after all, if it didn't work the first time why would it the second - ah but it does work. o_O
