    Hi dkistner and welcome! :)

msn.com doesn't hijack settings. That is the default that Adaware resets it to when removing a hijack (since it doesn't know what internet settings you had before).

You can run HijackThis to remove them. Scan, and when it finishes checkmark these items, then press fix checked.

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}&clcid={SUB_CLSID}&pver={SUB_PVER}&ar=home

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.google.com/keyword/%s

Then set your search and start settings in Internet Options as you wish.

I'm not sure what you mean by the problem with emails?? Can you describe the problem a little further?

I didn't see anything else in your log jumping out at me as a problem.

Re: Disable IE Home Page Settings gets unchecked

Well, this is very good to know. I was imagining all kinds of nefarious things were going on each time that happened. I wish they'd change Adaware to reset to a blank page, though, when this kind of thing happens. It takes forever for that msn.com page to load, and I wind up with a lot of junk to clear out with Norton.

Well, that's a relief. Although comparing my log to others here, I see I've got way too much running. Is there a good place to check to see what processes can be taken out of Startup without causing harm?

On the email issue: I just wrote the SpamWeed developer, who said it was possible that installing the beta over the older version might have caused this. Basically, many copies of the same email are downloaded into Outlook. I can delete them, but they come back the next time I poll for mail. And they multiply...first it'll just be one, then another email from somewhere else will be added in, then more...just burgeoning. I thought it was very "virus-like" behavior, myself. Any thoughts?

Thank you, CalamityJane! Thank you so much for your help.

Ok, your email problems don't sound like malware - and since I did not see anything in the log that is suspicious I would go with whatever SpamWeed directs you to do to fix the problem.

As for your startups, here are the resources I use. Sysinfo.org is sometimes quite busy and you can't get through, but if you keep trying you can eventually. I find it the best source for startup entries and the best way to disable them
