 My name is Margaret Beaver. Three days ago I begin getting a different homepage when I opened IE. I have W98 and IE 6.0. I changed my options for homepage back to iWon and it came up. However, it changed back to a page called I Can't Find It. The URL for this page is: hxxp://4-counter.com/?b=dia It is putting smiley faces in my windows temp. files. I deleted all my cookies, history and temp. files with the option/tool window.

It came right back.... I then tried to down load Adware. While it was downloading (very beginning) the page changed back to hxxp://searchpage.cc/ Although it shows and came up a different search page the url was the same for both. It would not let me download the adware or other spyware sites.

Need help..... The files this thing is filling my computer with are "pure FILTH"

    Thanks

Hi beavercm, and welcome to Wilders.

I have moved your thread from the Virus Forum into this forum.

Please follow the instructions here to download HijackThis:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=15913

Unzip HijackThis into a permanent folder of it's own. HijackThis creates backups in the folder it is ran from, so do not run it from a Temp folder or your Desktop as those backups will be easily lost.

Please post your HijackThis log into this thread for an Expert to analyse and the will give you instructions on what needs to be fixed.

    Regards,

    snap

Hi.... I tried to download HijackThis. It won't let me. The minute it starts to download it reverts to another search page.

I also tried to download Spybot and it did the same thing. I'll try TDS-3 and Spyware Blaster while I'm waiting for your reply.

I've got some more info. on my problem.

I have AVG 6.0 as my virus protector. I haven't been able to update it for a week or so. Today I finally got it updated. It found the following virus.

    Trojan horse Downloader.Small.5.1

It healed it and the Avg vault shows te File name: xwxload.exe with a path of C:\WINDOWS/TEMP\xwxload.exe

It wouldn't let me download any of the spyware type programs. For some reason it is letting me download the adware right now. I will run it when it finishes. I'll leave it open if you think its log will help you.

    Hope to hear..........

    Hi beavercm,

You have a variant of CoolWebSearch.

Please download the latest copy of CWShredder and run. Be sure to have ALL other windows and programs closed. Click FIX and follow the instructions given.

Then reboot and post a new HJT log as other items will likely need to be fixed.

    Regard,
    Kent
