    Hi cyberfilly,

    Welcome to the Forums! :)

Let me just address the virus you have stuck in that area first as it may be separate from the unattended hibernation wake-up issue, or not if it is actually the AV that is "waking" the system up because of the virus detection.

What virus does it say it is? Is it a virus that you know you had one time in the past but thought might be cleaned up?

That file location is the System Restore area. Windows XP copies various files from your active system to that area in order to allow you to "roll your computer back" to a previous configuration if you need to. But, it doesn't know good files from bad files and very often it will copy a virus file into one of those "restore points", too.

Now the good news is that a virus can't run from the System Restore area. The bad news is you can't delete it (at least not safely) yourself from there. The major anti-virus people recomend that you wipe all files in all restore points in order to remove any malware that might have got caught in there by System Restore.

    What Microsoft says about this:

    http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q263/4/55.ASP

What a couple AV site's say:

    http://www.norman.com/virus_info/me_restore.shtml

    http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm

I recommend clearing the System Restore area as described, this will get rid of that virus so your AV won't detect it anymore. Then you can wait and see if the hibernation wake-up problem remains. (It certainly may. These might be unconnected. Or, as I said above it could be the AV waking up the computer in the middle of the night.)

    Hi cyberfilly,

Not related but you do have some spyware running.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    O2 - BHO: mwsBar BHO - {07B18EA1-A523-4961-B6BB-170DE4475CCA} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL

    O3 - Toolbar: My &Web Search - {07B18EA9-A523-4961-B6BB-170DE4475CCA} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Outwar] C:\WINDOWS\syslaunch.exe

    O4 - Global Startup: hp center UI.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Shadow\ShadowBar.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: hp center.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: Logitech Desktop Messenger.lnk = C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LDMConf.exe

    O8 - Extra context menu item: MyPoints - file://C:\Program Files\MyPointsPointAlert\System\Temp\mypoints_script0.htm
O9 - Extra button: MktBrowser (HKLM)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: MarketBrowser (HKLM)

    Then reboot and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\syslaunch.exe
    C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch <= entire folder

    Regards,

    Pieter

Good Morning and thanks for the welcome!
ok I tried to get back to hijackthis but every time i typed it into my address bar I kept getting misdirected to a domain registration site!? anyway I ended up going back through my history and did get there! I deleted the spyware
Now! the strange part is I cant seem to delete the "mywebsearch folder" every time I try I get an error. "error deleting File/Folder can not delete MWSOEMON.EXE access denied"o_O and when I try deleting it from add/remove all I get is a blank window? and here I though I would do the easy stuff first lol anyway Ill try to follow Lowwaters advice now and see if I can at least get that done!
ok an add on here I did follow the instructions on cleaning the system restore files so I guess now its a case of "wait and see" but I still cant get the "mywebsearch folder" to delete?

    Hi cyberfilly !

Can you retry the folder deletion from within Safe Mode? That should circumvent the issues you were encountering.

    Regards,

    Dan

Actually closing all browser windows when you click Fix checked should have prevented that from happening after a reboot.
Run HijackThis again and see if any entries I asdvised to remove are still there and, if so, remove them again following those insructions.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi cyberfilly,

It is your choice ultimately, but MyWebSearch is considered spyware.

I would advise you to fix:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Email Plugin] C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe

    and delete:
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\MYWEBSEARCH

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi cyberfilly,

Can you kill the process in TaskManager first and then remove it.
If you succeed you can fix the entry with HijackThis afterwards.

This one is related as well:
    O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://imgfarm.com/images/nocache/funwebproducts/SmileyCentralInitialSetup1.0.0.6.cab
but should not refrain you from deleting it. Best try all that while offline. I know that uninstalling the Toolbar contacts the interne and gives you some nag-screens why you are uninstalling it. (AdAware still found 11 related registry-entries and files after that)

    Regards,

    Pieter
