I've tried using both Spybot and Ad-aware, but they're not able to remove a some items, even after rebooting. The most annoying problem that I've experienced is pop-ups, but another user of this computer says that sometimes programs will just automatically start without being "clicked on". The log file from HijackThis is below. Thanks in advance. I can only hope that kharma provides you with the compensation you undoubtedly deserve.

    Hi kydodson,

Before you start, please unzip hijackthis to a separate folder. The program will make backups in the folder in the folder it's in.
These easily get lost in a Temp folder.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O1 - Hosts: 12.129.205.209 search.netscape.com12.129.205.209 sitefinder.verisign.com
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00000EF1-0786-4633-87C6-1AA7A44296DA} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ATPART~1.DLL
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {01F44A8A-8C97-4325-A378-76E68DC4AB2E} - C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll (file missing)

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SysUpd] C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ayqcfxsnyw] C:\WINDOWS\System32\tfbapaag.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [updater] C:\Program Files\Common files\updater\wupdater.exe

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\tfbapaag.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common files\updater <= entire folder

    Regards,

    Pieter

Thanks for the help, Pieter. One more question and then I'll leave you alone. I noticed that there was a program called "updaterInstall_112" on my C:. May I delete this? The path is C:\updaterInstall_112. You've been a terrific help.

    Best,
    Kyle
