Win98 is operating aol (dialup) from my little exp. she had been hijacked, i ran adaware and installed zone alarm i was going to run anti- trojan & hijack this , then computer froze, i had to uninstall both programs or her system would freeze. I get as far as dialing up to aol then any address typed in or surfing gives a message cannot open page / server not found. I was thinking of system restore. any suggestions? Thank you
Hi stephys, Which programs did you have to uninstall? And can you get HijackThis to run and post the log? Regards, Pieter
same day installed and uninstalled zonealarm, ad-aware6, spybot s&d . tried for hijack this, as i recall no zip file is insalled so it could not install. I will be back on her computer this evening, LAST TRY WE COULD NOT GET ANY ADDRESS ON THE WEB. i have written the complete address to tomcoyote and will try this evening to download hijack and send you the log. Is there anything i can do offline to remedy this problem, so we can at least get to a site for repair downloads. thank you always for all your help.
Ahhh ZoneAlarm has a tricky uninstall, if I remember correctly... Did you simply uninstall it or follow some directions? I remember Blaze having a run-in with that situation and I know if ZA is not uninstalled "just right" you lose conenctivity. Gotta try and find the ZA uninstall directions...
You could put this utility on floppy and take it with you: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm It might come in handy. Regards, Pieter
ahhhh!!!! I like , i can take it with me can you think of anything else that would come in handy. (i am going to the link now to copy and read.) Thanks everyone
Uninstalling ZAF and ZAP (they are different): Just the FAQ at Zonelabs. Totally freeware product: JustZIPit
AOL itself can be tricky. The adding and removing of a software firewall can cause corruption in the AOL dialup adapter, sometime still allowing you to connect but not able to resolve any webpages (only able to reach AOL internal content, no external web sites). AOL has had enough problems with the AOL adapter that they've included a built-in tool to fix it... This may help or it may not, but it shouldn't make things any worse.
