OK, I'll admit to a little porn site browsing yesterday - it was purely unintentional but once I got there it was hard to break away...

Unfortunately, I cannot seem to get away from this hijacker to www.counter-4.com. I've tried everything that I thought would help, but to no avail.

    Here's my hijackthis.log:

    Hi snowbound,

    Thanks for your feedback.

I already downloaded CWShredder and ran it a couple of times before posting the prior HJT log. I also ran Spybot - Search & Destroy, and SpywareBlaster. They tell me everything looks great:

After now running CWShredder, here's the latest log:

PS: sorry about the live link to the hijacking site, is there a standard way for me to disable that?

    ok,

I do not have enough experience with HJT to advise u any further.

Most of the experts live in different time zones so just be patient and one of them will be along to give u further recommendations.

    Thanks.

As for the link there probably is a better way but i just took out the http. ;)

    Hi dustdog,

Could you bring up TaskManager and kill:
    the process called winproc32.exe

Then mail C:\WINNT\system32\winproc32.exe to the address in my profile.
I would like to see if this is a different version. It should not have escaped CWShredder. You did reboot after using CWShredder, right?

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter,

I've emailed the winproc32.exe file. Since my first post I've upgraded from win2K SP2 to SP4. It seems to have resolved the blatant hijack problem - that is my homepage seems to remain unchanged. However the HJT log still shows 4-counter references in the registry.

    Here's my latest HJT log;

    Pieter,

    I'm a happy camper!

    Everything looks clean now!

Thanks so much to this forum, to the moderators, and to the contributors. What a valuable service you are providing to those of us who find ourselves up a creek we haven't paddled before.

Your help has been so professional, prompt, and direct.

Can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

I'll continue to be snooping around and hopefully contributing when possible.

    Best wishes,

    dustdog
