Hi,I am using Hijack This V1.96

I ran a scan, checked the entries that looked like trouble, fixed them and when I start a browser, it is still hijacked. When I re-scan, everything I check to be fixed is there again. I did not have any browser windows open while scanning and fixing.

    Here is my log file:

    Hi stevethomps,

    Welcome to Wilders.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\gabffbd.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\gabffbd.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\gabffbd.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\gabffbd.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\gabffbd.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\gabffbd.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Use Custom Search URL =

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {EDE6F96B-EC81-4485-A5E1-F2874EB29B73} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\gabffbd.dll

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [System Update] C:\WINDOWS\System\update.exe

There also may be hidden files. See HERE for how to show hidden files.

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\gabffbd.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System\update.exe

Reboot and then post a fresh HijackThis log.

    Regards,

OK, I did everything you posted except I could not find an instance of this file: C:\WINDOWS\System32\gabffbd.dll

I looked in system 32 folder couldn't find it...made sure I had folder set to show all files including system files...then searched the whole hard drive...nothing there. I did find and delete the update.exe.

Here is the hijack this log after rebooting. It apears as though the hijack is gone now. I can launch IE and have it go to yahoo which is my default age.
