    [Closed] Hijack this

    Greetings,

I am not able to install windows security updates, or run online virus checks at Trend Micro, Panda, or McAfee.

My McAfee has found a couple of viruses, but I think I am still having problems.

I have ran Adaware, Spybot, Stinger, and Shredder.

    Hi Coyote Creek,

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {1C78AB3F-A857-482e-80C0-3A1E5238A565} - (no file)

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A4EF8F4B-B3D8-4F20-9BCF-569BB56EA1AE} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\nbjp.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

    O8 - Extra context menu item: &iSearch The Web - res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\toolbar.dll/SEARCH.HTML

Then do this to cure the hosts file redirect you probably have:
download http://members.shaw.ca/techcd/VB_Projects/HostsFileReader.exe and then click on search for hosts.
If and when any hosts file is found, it will be listed in the bottom window, click on it and press the reset default button.
that will replace any bad entries with the standard windows entries
NOTE: if you use a customized hosts file to block certain sites then this will overwrite all those entries as well and you will need to re enter them.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    We'll worry about that later.

Find this file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS and rename it to HOSTS.BAK

Then try the sites you mentioned again.

    Regards,

    Pieter
