HiJack This!!

Hello all,

HiJack This has all of a sudden started locking up on me when I click on "SCAN"..... It always freezes at the same point with about 50 % CPU usage and around 58,000 K mem usage.... Could malware be causing this? I have done full scans with NOD32, TDS, and TrojanHunter and they all come up clean.... I have deleted my copy of HiJack This and installed a clean copy but still have the same problem...

Anyone seen this before or have any advice?

I forgot to say that I also ran SpyBot and AdAware, and then just in case CWShredder, and all of these came up clean also.....

Hi Kent,

How big is your hosts file?
Try renaming it to hosts.bak and run HijackThis again.

Hi Pieter,

As always, you had the answer I needed .... My Hosts file contains 30180 entries and is 920 KB in size .... I just wonder why all of a sudden HJT started hanging here? I guess my Hosts file just grew too big ....

Which one I use? http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
(adapted a little to include my favorites)
Or why HijackThis struggles with it?
Imagine having to read 920 KB of text and checking every line against a database that holds over a thousand domains.
