    Hi georgial,

    Welcome to Wilders.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    C:\WINDOWS\dealhlpr.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\DHUpdt.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\dhbrwsr.exe

Thanks for the help only that the problem has gotten worse. I'm currently in safe mode because every time I try to boot the pc and allow the desktop to come up, it continuously gives me a blue screen immediately and reboots like crazy. It has done it to me several times in safe mode as well so I hope I can get this posted before it does it again. Why do you suppose this is happening?

delete these files in safe mode if you didn't get them the first time around
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\Owner\LOCAL SETTINGS\Temp\setup.exe <<<<in fact delete everything in the temp folder
    C:\WINDOWS\dhsvr.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\loader.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\dhbrwsr.exe

search in for any other files starting with DH and list them, I suspect you might have
some others from this pest that aren't showing and are causing the problem

Be careful and don't delete any of them until we have checked first though

see if there is a deal helper or time sync folder on the computer anywhere

and download and run AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download
Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least 01R300 28.04.2004 or a higher number/later date

    Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

    then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

    then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

    reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

it's quite ok to download, install and run it in safe mode as you are using XP

Ok, here's the story. I did as you said but couldn't find these two:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\loader.exe <-- I deleted this last time around
C:\WINDOWS\dhbrwsr.exe <-- couldn't find this one at all.

In the WINDOWS folder I have the following DH files:

    DHUn
    DHP.dll

    shall I delete them?

Also I think there are reminants of the timesync pest.

timesync.sss and a timesync notepad file still show up in the WINDOWS folder.

I'm not posuitive with these 2
    DHUn
    DHP.dll

can you right click the files and select properties if they say anything about dealhelper or timesync then delete them otherwise leave them for now

the 2 timesync files you found can go though

Haven't gotten one yet but if I do I'll post again.

I deleted the DHUn.exe b/c it was part of the dealhelper thing but I've left the DHP.dll file there for now.

Also there is a file in the windows folder called TimeUn and I can't figure out if that's part of the timesync business that I deleted before.

Anyway I'll leave them there for now and if the pc continues to crash I'll be back.

Whatever the case, you've been a great help, and very efficient. I'm impressed :)

Thanks so much and have a lovely weekend :)

    Hi dvk01,

Not so happy news. My computer crashed again last night. (Blue screen, then crash).

Do you have any clue what might be happening or should I format?

    Thanks!

I don't get a chance to read any of it because the blue screen disappears so incredibly fast and then the pc reboots. :(

If you want to see what this error is, you will have to check the error log list because Windows reboots too quickly for you to read what happened. Well with this tip you can disable the Auto-Reboot so you can finally read, and see the blue screen error.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
    Go to Advanced
Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"

then you will be able to see tha error message and we stand a chance of curing it

It didn't take long to crash...hehe! Here is the message that appeared on the blue screen.

(I installed mirc last week. Could this be the problem?)

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware of software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you may need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowning. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced STartup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

    Techincal Information:

    ***STOP: 0x0000000A (0xFFDFEFBB, 0x0000001C, 0x00000000, 0x805346CE)

    Beginning dump of physical memory.
    Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

I'm still getting the blue screen and I think Windows Media Player may be at fault. At some point about a month or two ago I had lost it and had to download it from the net. My anti-virus just popped up and let me know that the file wmplayter.exe is infected with the following virus:

    AdClicker-O.dr

I think I've picked up another virus along the way too. Could someone please check my log and advise me of what I should do? Thanks so much :)

I can't see anything but many CWS hijackers are known to overwrite or replace media player.exe so

download CWshredder from http://www.thespykiller.co.uk then Run it
Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "FIX" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

Reboot After running cwshredder and as soon as possible follow this advice:
Now as CWS Hijacks are normally installed via the byte verifier exploit in M$ JavaVM, just surfing a page with an infected applet can install it with no user participation. So once you’ve run the above, it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.

and see what result you get from that one
