    Hi Lartrainer,

    Welcome to Wilders.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

    O3 - Toolbar: &Search Toolbar - {339BB23F-A864-48C0-A59F-29EA915965EC} - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: city great - {6CC626EC-AF97-C0CB-B838-ACE6268B1C99} - C:\PROGRA~1\SOAPBI~1\Knobdog.dll

Then reboot in Safe Mode and delete the following:

    C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar <-- entire folder
    C:\PROGRA~1\SOAPBI~1 <-- entire folder

Reboot and then post a fresh HijackThis log.

    Regards,
    Kent

Excuse my butting in, but the above will not help for very long if you leave this one in:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hide list] C:\PROGRA~1\PARTCO~1\ReadmeGram.exe

and I don't like the looks of this one:
    C:\DOCUME~1\ASSCLO~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Rem2.exe

As Kent said: post a new log after the first round.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Lartrainer,

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hide list] C:\PROGRA~1\PARTCO~1\ReadmeGram.exe

    O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} (cpbrkpie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/1435/ftp.coupons.com/v3123/cpbrkpie.cab

    Then reboot into safe mode
    and delete:
    C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate <= entire folder

Then can you find this file:
    C:\Documents and Settings\ass clown\Local Settings\Temp\InstantIdler.exe
rightclick it and check what it says on the version tab?

The Local Settings Folder is hidden by default.
To "unhide" hidden files and folders:
Launch My Computer from the Desktop Icon.
    Select View, Details.
    Select the Folders button.
Select Tools, Folder Options. Then select the View Tab. Select the Show hidden files and folders radio button is selected
and that the Hide file extensions for known file types check box is unchecked. Once this is done, select Apply and then
Like Current Folder (located near the top of the Folder Options box). Then select OK.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Thanks again for all of your help. I did as you said. It seems that these things keep happening because me 12 year old son likes to surf the web for Playstation 2 game cheats. How can I prevent this from constantly happening? I use Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D. Thanks!

it's very likely you have a L2M parasite infection, before we do anything else please do this to check please

Please download the KillBox from here:

    http://download.broadbandmedic.com/VbStuff/KillBox.zip

UnZip it to it's own folder not to the Desktop or a Temp folder. Click on The KillBox.exe and it will open. Now click find then find msg.dll, then on the little pop up window, that says killbox file list, press file/create log and a pop up says do you want to create a log in notepad, say yes and then save as usual in notepad and copy & paste the resulting list here

I tried that and a popup box states that the file doesn't exist. What now? Thanks for your help!

normally running killbox a small white box pops up and lists about 5 or 6 files starting with msg

it's very rare to get a file doesn't exist message with killbox

    but

    anyway do this please

Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

    Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
    AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

    Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

    then reboot &

    Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least 01R279 31.03.2004 or a higher number/later date

    Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

    then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

    then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

    reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left so we can clear up any left overs
