The usual drill. An nkvd.us browser hijack. In addition, fhM.exe and Obtt3CgY.exe keep trying to access the internet upon boot-up, but they can't get though my firewall without permission.
Ad_Aware 6.0 detects registry changes, but doesn't effect a permanent solution.
    Your advice is greatly appreciated.

    Hello Armitage,

    Let's start with this:

Download CWShredder Click on update, then close all browsers, and then click on Fix, not scan.

Next, download Spybot S&D Check for Updates first, download ALL Updates and Do a Scan. When finished, make sure ALL RED items have been ticked, and click the "Fix Selected Problems" Button.

    Reboot the computer.

Run Hijackthis again and post a fresh log here.

    Here's the latest log.
    I'm still curious about fhM.exe and Obtt3CgY.exe.
According to the file Properties, they were created about the time I was apparently infected, but a web serach doesn't turn up coherent references to either application.

    Hi Armitage,

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {1C78AB3F-A857-482e-80C0-3A1E5238A565} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [fhM] C:\documents and settings\michael sears\local settings\temp\fhM.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Obtt3CgY] C:\documents and settings\michael sears\local settings\temp\Obtt3CgY.exe

    O8 - Extra context menu item: &iSearch The Web - res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\toolbar.dll/SEARCH.HTML

Reboot into safe mode and use the Disk Cleanup Utility to empty all your Temp folders.

Post a new log when you are done, so we can see if everything worked out as planned.

    Regards,

    Pieter
