Hi. What is the best (free) scanning software. I use avast for my installed AV, but I'd like to get a good second scanner - easy to use & which also removes any problems. Thank you!!

Cool - Can you recommend another good scanner. Like Malware Bytes? I don't know if that is still a good one -been years since I used something like Malware Bytes as a second scanner. Thank you!

Your post title "Help with virus attack" implies that you are attempting to resolve an active system infection.

If what you are really trying to do is get advice and find additional scanners, then you should disregard the remainder of my post here.

There is no single on-demand scanner or AV that will remove all infections. You're looking for a silver bullet and there isn't one to be had.

None of the people who have replied to your thread are malware removal experts - and neither am I - but I know the generally accepted procedure and best practices to resolve infections.

There is a proper protocol that should be followed when dealing with active infections.

If there is an active infection then you should request malware removal assistance at only one of these sites (not both at the same time). It will take a few days via the forum and back-and-forth communication between you and the malware removal expert to resolve your case:

    https://malwaretips.com/forums/malware-removal-assistance.10/

    https://support.emsisoft.com/forum/6-help-my-pc-is-infected/

With some infections trying to remove them all by yourself will result in further, needless damage or incomplete removal. Also, some of the utilities recommended in this thread can cause damage if used incorrectly.
