First download CWshredder from either http://www.thespykiller.co.uk or https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=14086 then Run it
Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "FIX" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

Reboot After running cwshredder and as soon as possible follow this advice:
Now as CWS Hijacks are normally installed via the byte verifier exploit in M$ JavaVM, just surfing a page with an infected applet can install it with no user participation. So once you’ve run the above, it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.

    then reboot &
Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

    Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
    AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

    Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

    then reboot &

    Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least 01R317 12.06.2004 or a higher number/later date

    Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

    then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

    then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

    reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

If this concerns the same computer as this one: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=36402 it might be better to stay in one thread.

    Regards,

Hi i have done all you said dvk01,
but everything is still exactly the same!! :'(
The problems are: my computer is running EXTREMELY slow, it took 1hour 35minutes to run ad-aware! Also i do not know what it is but i know it is wrong, when i press ctrl+alt+delete it says my "CPU usage 100%" and it has only ever stayed around 2% before,
Finally i have got a desktop screen which i cannot get rid of, i right click on my desktop to bring up the properties so i can change it and it will not let me change my desktop picture! The current desktop picture which i cannot remove says : "WARNING YOUR IN DANGER!" and then it says alot more but basically "your files are stored on your computer even after you remove them, get help now" and then at the bottom it has got a link saying "secure yourself now removal instructions" SO somebody please help me! heres my log:

ok i am going to post another hijackthis log and hope that 1 of u kind people will HELP!!!! ASAP,
    the problems are this:
My "cpu usage" is on 100% (it is only usually on 2%! I found this out by pressing CTRLA+ALT+DELETE) which could be the cause of:
My computer running EXTREMELY slow (it took 2hours and 35min to run adadware!)
The thing that is using up all my "CPU" is something called "mstasks2.exe" so this could maybe be the cuase of my problem so should i delete it!??
Finally on your desktop you have a background, my background has been hijacked and it has disabled me from right clicking on my desktop! The background i have got reads: "WARNING YOU ARE IN DANGER!..... All the files you delete are still there for anyone to see and cannot be removed using standard tools..... SECURE YOURSELF NOW!" and there is a link to a webpage which wants you to download some software, here is my hijack this log, PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

"just a note that there is a file with the name mstasks2.exe that's associated with Trojan droppers."

Have you taken action to run a few online virus scans and or download a Anti-trojan program ? Perhaps I should have been more informative with my above post but I assumed you would check the possibilities that your infected with a trojan or virus....which HighJackThis will not fix.

Also....you might consider having your system scanned with a few of the below Free online virus scans.

    http://security.symantec.com/
    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
    http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/
    http://www3.ca.com/threatinfo/virusinfo/scan
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Also....I can assure you that your problem is not being over-looked. The sheer numbers of users with problems similar to yours is esclating even as I post this. There are only so many capable volunteers that are tackiling these problems and they also have private lives to lead. Hopefully someone can have you back to surfing ASAP.

ok, thank you i am sorry but i misunderstood, because you said you would leave it to the professionals to help me. I did not know that hijack this would not fix it! I have got norton antivirus do u think this could help aswell? So is it correct that antivirus fixes viruses and trojans and hijackthis fixes adware and what i have got sounds like a trojan!? I will try what you have said now and reply when i have finished, thank you and i apologise

just to note pieter the other post was different to this one and i not needed anymore,
ok sorry i took so long i have just been busy, the usual stuff lol.
Anyway i have used hijackthis myself and deleted "mstasks2.exe" since i have done this my computer is running ALOT quicker however there are still some things which are running that are making my computer run slow still they are : "SYSTEM IDLE PROCESS, SYNTPLPR.EXE/ SYNTPENH.EXE" do you now if i can delete these safely or are they needed on my computero_Oo_O?? (Note i cannot find these on hijackthis)
Also i have not managed to get rid of the desktop wallpaper and it still will not let me acces my desktop properties + my homepage on IE is still hijacked by aboutblank, has anyone got any idea about what i should do about these three thingso_Oo_O??
    Thankyou, BARRY
(there is no hurry as i am sure i can put up with these problems for a while the main thing was just helping my computer run as quickly as normal and not take 30min to load up IE! and i have done this now)

    Hi guys,
Sorry it has been so long, but this is where i have basically got to with my computer, it is not totally fixed yet!
EVERYTHING is fine apart from 1 thing, i cannot get a picture on my desktop it is just saved as white, i will try to explain what happens:
You have got lots of shortcuts to different things on your desktop like rcycle bin, my computer etc, usually you have a picture of your choice on this, and to change this you right click and press "properties" and usually this brings up different things like screensaver timing etc, mine just comes up with a properties file saying "Protocol: file protocol, Type: HTML document, Connection: Not Encrypted, Address (URL): C:/WINDOWS/web/desktop.html"

So can anyone PLEASE advise me what to do! Do i need to send a hijack this report, as my name says pleasehelpmemycomp!

(Note: I have deleted and done ALOT of things to my computer to try and fix the problems that i have been having, most of the things i probably should not have done! but anyway i have run spybot, ad-aware, hijackthis, cw shredder, norton antivirus and i have deleted ALOT of files manually! The main one being C:/WINDOWS/web/desktop.html! but it still says it is on!)

The first place I'd check is:
    Open the Control Panel.
    Open Display Properties.
    Click the Desktop tab.
Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Thankyou, i have got as far as clicking the dektop tab, but i could not find or do not know what you mean by: "Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window." There is something called "internet explorer wallpaper" so i clicked this to see what it was and it brought up a picture of a car that i have got set in what i want to set as my desktop picture, however when i press apply to set this picture as my desktop picture NOTHING happens! my desktop backgroung still stays as white! SO what would you recomend to try next!? Should i maybe wring windows or somebody and ask them!? Thank you
