Help with settings for efficiency?

Hi,
How can I maximize the efficiency of the real-time scanner?
I'm a long-time Nod32 user and have always set the program to scan deeply, use heuristics, etc. Now I'm concerned with efficiency of the program's on-demand scanning for my laptop.
If I set Nod to perform a deep full-computer scan once per week (at night when I'm not using it) then how can I set the real-time scanner up so that it uses less resources without losing (much) security? For example, if files are scanned on "creation", do they need to be scanned also on "open" and on "execution"?

We recommend using default settings.

You could import the settings of a user you implicitly know and trust.
This would be one alernative to learning tweaks yourself, but, as already noted, the out of the box setting work well.
