Hi, I am very new to Linux Mint and was merging files into a folder. Accessing the folder I right clicked and selected root to investigate. On closing the rooted folder I can no longer add files to that folder. Properties show it is root and I do not know how to go back to what it was before. Is there an easy and if possible non-command fix? Thanks
The folder was in your home area, thus with user rights before? What version of Mint? Cinnamon, XFCE, MATE? I'm asking this to know which file manager you use. With Cinnamon, I'd start nemo with root privileges "sudo nemo". Then navigate to the problematic folder, right click and change the ownership in the properties back to your username. Close nemo and you're done. With XFCE, the file manager is thunar. With MATE, the file manager is caja. Hope this helps!
Thanks. Have it fixed (mostly). Mint 19 Cinnamon and not sure. Went to user name folder and permissions and made it to write/delete etc. Then went o documents text folder and the folder with the un-zipped files and properties now shows it as user and no longer root. The only thing I notice is it wont select multiple zips and unzip here, but only unzip to. Trying unzip here it will only do the first file, but that isn't a major thing right now. Guess it is fixed for me right now. Being a new user I am very uncomfortable using commands Thanks
