I recently installed a new modem and had to reinstall IE7. Now I am getting too many pop ups. At least one every minute. What can be done. Thanks

Try installing any of the pop up stopper utilities ( you can find some at majorgeeks.com)

If you have pop-ups you probably have some sort of adware or malware on your system already. Download and run the free version of SuperAntiSpyware if you haven't already to see if it finds anything.

Here are a couple other free online scans that can work well-

    Trend Micro Housecall

    Ewido online scan

The pop-up stopper in IE7 is actually pretty good. But you need to make sure your system is clean first. What anti-spyware and antivirus programs do you currently have?

also do go control panel, administive tools, services.
    find messenger
right click it click on stop
once its change startup type to disable then click ok.
this will stop the popups that use the messenger service.
note this is nothing to do with msn messenger.
also i reccomend to get a router with a bulti in firewall.

Pop up blocker of IE 7 is enough. U sure have malware on ur system. Check that the popup blocker of IE is enabled or not.

Scan in safe mode with a good Antivirus( there are free options Avast, Antivir, AVG) and antispyware( AVG Antispyware free, SuperAntispyware free). U can try free Comodo BOClean as well but it,s for real time protection, not scanning and cleaning.

The OP reports he/she uses IE7 . Internet Explorer 7 can be installed only on Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (earlier versions of XP are not supported).

In XP SP2 Messenger service is disabled/stopped by default . Firewall in Windows XP Sp2 will also block the pop-ups coming from the messenger service .

The OP is infected with malicious software and needs cleaning .

Not true . I haven't changed any settings in the Services , except UnPnP which is OFF.Messenger service is disabled for ALL Windows XP editions when there is SP2 installed.
