Hi stressd out

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked":

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe -osboot <---does not have to run at startup

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE < -----optional

Reboot

Then browse to the C:\documents and settings\\User Name (repeat for all users)\local settings\temp folder and delete all files and folders in it.
Then browse to the C:\Windows\Temp folder and delete all files in it.
Then in internet explore click tools>internet Options>General. Click on Delete Files make sure you get all offline content as well.

Then Disable system restore: Instructions here
Reboot

Enable System Restore.

I did the first part but how do I get to this next step?

Then browse to the C:\documents and settings\\User Name (repeat for all users)\local settings\temp folder and delete all files and folders in it.
Then browse to the C:\Windows\Temp folder and delete all files in it.

 

Then use the Disk Cleanup Utility to empty all your Temp folders.

Hi,

Hmm...... you didn't save HJT in its OWN folder and now your desktop is "cluttered" with the backups?

Easiest way IMO would be to rightclick on an empty space on your desktop and choose New > Folder
Name it HijackThis (or anything else fancy)
Rightclick HijackThis.exe, choose Cut.
Doubleclick (to open) the folder you created.
Rightclick inside and choose Paste.

Otherwise your log looks clean to me.

 

I have HJT.exe icon on my desktop...Is this not the same thing your recommending? Also Why can't I delete them or run them through Mcafee shredder? Why save them? Please pardon my computer ignorance. Thanks.

 

No, NOT on the desktop - and NOT in Temp. files as the program will make backups.

If something goes wrong you can undo the changes done by Hijack This. Go to the bottom right hand corner of Hijack This and click on config. Then choose backups.There you can reverse any changes you made.

If everything is running fine - without any problems - you can delete the backups.
