Does anybody know a safe site (other than M$) where I can download this Utility?

It is used to resolve this message:

    NTLDR is missing
    Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart.

Plz return to let us know if it resolves your issue. I been thru that headache unfortunately a time or two but resorted to overwrite reinstall just to keep my programs intact. Recovery Console was useless. :thumbd:

Well, here is the status. Herb's link was safe enough and I downloaded the utility.

The next problem was you have to copy/burn it on to a boot-able cd.

Now I'm trying to restore my old IBM Pentium II with this tool. It only likes cd's not dvd's so I tried to add it to a Paragon cd boo-table but keep getting message disk full. So for now I'm stuck.

May be the right tool but how to get it loaded? I'll continue to work the problem but I'd have to tell you I'm getting out my old MS98 floppies!

    Any ideas welcome

    Thanks Fred:

I've printed out the steps, so we will see what I can do with them.

My original question was how to get the utility on to a boot-able ...so I'm still puzzled on that one.

Do I still need to do that to carry out the 8 steps?

to make this utility bootable use a bootdisk as described on the website
    http://www.protostorm.com/bootdisk.html

i'll never used this tools so cant comment on it

    urs is:

    NTLDR is missing
    Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart.

for this use the 8-step guide (it works 100% each time ;) )
    http://www.short-media.com/articles/repair_windows_xp

it requires ur XP disc ofcourse
    boot into recovery console
type the 8 commands and reboot

    Fred:

    I cheated, I used 3 tools:

    1) NORTON original emergency recovery disks from windows 98
    2) Reinstalled MS windows xp upgrade from second edition ms98 cd

All is back, I have clean PC Pentium II, and an orginal xp 2

Now all I have to do is put in a Ethernet card and hook it up to the internet

Thanks, I guess I'm just lazy

I kept all the stuff you pointed me to. All the commands sort of scared me and it gave me an excuse for a clean reinstall anyway!

    Thanks again!
