my laptop has recently set itself to when I type each key gives an annoying chirp. I have done everything I can think of to fix this. My OS is Windows NT and I've gone to sticky keys, sounds and even F2 on start up and nothing is working. Can anyone tell me another way to fix this??
jenryan, first, welcome to Wilders! Do you recall installing any new software recently or maybe seeing an automatic update for an Instant Messaging program? Sometimes, IM applications love to make funny sounds and that's what I'm thinking of. BTW, can you tell us the Make and Model of your laptop?
I think I did do an update for one of my instant messengers but don't remember which one. I have a Dell Latitude with windows NT on it.
Perhaps you need to go into each IM program and look for an Options panel where you can tweak sounds to see if that cures the chirp issues.
Ok I'll try that and see what happens. I'm afraid if I do too much I'll mess up the whole system entirely!!!
jenryan, just take it one IM program at a time and then test your keyboard so you can know which one was the one. Can you tell us which IM programs you have? I don't use IM but perhaps other Wilders members do and they can "chime" in (pun intended).
Checked my IM's and nothing. I don't know what it could be, I have AIM, Yahoo and Myspace..... I'm so tired of this. I can turn my sound completely off and then it won't bother me but what fun is that. I would restore the whole OS but I don't have a disk for it and that may not even fix the problem as well!!!!! If I don't get this fixed I may just have to buy some bird seed and see if that works!!!!!!!!!!!
jenryan, let's see if this helps (found it doing a Google search for your issue): Windows NT - keyboard beep
