Thank you in advance. I very much appreciate everyone's help.

Since yesterday I've been battling with this thing (backdoor.afcore.bm). My AVG recognizes it, but will not quarantine it or remove it. I ran an uninstall command (rundll32 ÄÉÓË:\%windir%\system32:qmgri.dll,Uninstall) but an error came up saying the module would not load. I also tried corfcgui.com (a cleaner from Sophos) which scanned my system but did not locate the trojan horse.

Pretty much anything I do on the computer will crash it, but I've been able to install and run Ad-Aware and HijackThis. Below is the hijack log, hopefully there is something I can do to kill this sucker ;) I'm not the most tech-savvy, so please walk me through the process slowly.

    Thanks again,
    Eva.

Re: Backdoor.Afcore.BM - Please check my HJT log

    I'm back!

With the help of TrendMicro.com (http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=BKDR_AFCORE.D) I believe I am finally rid of the trojan.

I never made any changes to my regedit, since no reference was made to the infected trojan (C:\Windows\system32\qmgri.dll in my case). But I believe I did manage to delete the infected files from my hard drive.

Can someone take a look at my HJT log to double check that the backdoor is gone? Thanks a bunch ;)

Re: Backdoor.Afcore.BM - Please check my HJT log

It looks like it's gone but until you update to SP1 and all the other security updates you will still be very vulnerable

Also your antivirus doesn't seem to be rtunning properly so that needs reinstalling

Read here https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=27971 for info on how to tighten your security settings and how to help prevent future attacks.

& go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.
