Currently, it is possible to accomplish any of the following operations: "READ SECTOR FROM DISK" Loads a sector into memory, reading it directly from the disk. "LOAD SECTOR FROM FILE" Loads a sector into memory, which was previously saved in a file. "SAVE SECTOR TO FILE" Saves the sector in memory to a file on any designated disk or medium. "WRITE SECTOR ON DISK" Writes to disk, the sector in memory, in the specified (MBR or boot sector) location HDHacker v1.6.2 Released (July 10, 2017) Website: http://dimio.altervista.org/eng/ Direct Download: http://dimiodati.altervista.org/zip/hdhacker.zip
Is there any purpose or usefulness, or is it even possible to use this to backup a UEFI GPT partition boot loader in secure boot mode? As far MBR Legacy this is strong and I will assume safe backup utility just for that purpose too if desired.
You can save the MBR to a USB flash drive. If for any reason, the MBR gets hosed, it can be restored from backup.
Ok thanks. I knew it was a rather routine safe procedure to restore Legacy MBR bootloaders, and done a fair share of them but have yet to test with a GPT Disk in the same way.

Trying to save the MBR from a W10 system doesn't work with my 2 SSD drives using this app . For some reason, it can't read the MBRs on those disks. I am using legacy BIOS support instead of UEFI since I am multi-booting different systems. Works fine on W7 and W8.1, so I'm not sure if this is a HDHacker problem or if W10 is preventing the MBR from being read. BOOTICE manages to save the MBRs without problems.
Must be a problem of HDHacker ("Impossible to read sector on disk") in combination with Win10. Winhex can read the MBR: WinHex:

Yes, I notified the developer and mentioned the problem I was having on Win10. He sent me some debug versions and it looks he was able to get enough info to fix it. The interesting thing was that he said it was working okay on his Win10 Home v10.0.10586 version.
oh cool.. I had totally forgot about this handy utility... Also the authors "Dsynchronize" is pretty neat sync app..
Yes @Stode Slightly off topic but Great 'old school' site, Dimitrios Coutsoumbas (Dimeo) great, approachable, (my favourite) developer, great software. I've used Dsynchronize for many years. I've mentioned it a few times on Wilders.
