I would like to use a programme such as Speedfan to monitor my HDD temp and flash a warning when it gets too hot.

Problem is that the temperature reads fine for a while and then gives me a stupid reading like 3C or 255C as opposed to the usual 40C.

Is there anything I can do about this?

I have tried other temp programmes so I know it is nothing to do with Speedfan.

It is a Hitachi Travelstar HTS424040M9AT00.

These monitors can be funny like that.
Just ignore them. Try a newer version of the program, might solve the issue.

I've had sensors reading -127C and fans spinning at 80,000 rpm! After I installed a new version of speedfan, things got normal :)
