My Windows XP hdd has bad sectors. I have another hdd in the PC which I'm trying to transfer my Windows XP installation over to.

I've used Disk Director to copy the Windows XP partition from the failing drive to the new drive - this has worked ok.

But when I run the OS Detection Wizard in OS Selector I get "No new operation system is found in the specified partition".

    Any ideas would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Neil

    Neil,

Does the new drive boot successfully into Windows when it is the only drive connected?

Is there just a single partition on the drive?

Was OSS installed to the old drive so it is now copied to the new drive or did you install OSS to the new driver after you copied to it?

Are you currently running OSS from the new drive or the old one?

    Hi MudCrab,

    Thanks for responding...

Will try this and get back to you (I still need the old drive as there is data still to transfer)

    > Is there just a single partition on the drive?

No, there's a data partition too.

I installed OSS after I'd copied the partition.

The old one (I think) - how can I be sure?

    Thanks,
    Neil

    Problem solved.

With just the new drive connected, the duplicated Windows installation tried to boot but came up with "missing hal.dll file".

    Microsoft article gave the solution:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314477 (Method 2 worked for me).

Could now boot into Windows and then with original drive reconnected, OSS could see both installations.

    Thanks,
    Neil
