Imagine yourself a brilliant cyber criminal. You may or may not lack empathy for others. Your ethics are questionable. Other than that you are a very interesting and complex being. You are contemplating a target to apply your talents. What are you considering and what is your motivation? Actors say that they prefer to play the role of the evil character over the hero. In trying to slip into the mind of a brilliant cyber criminal is tough, especially if you have contempt for what these people do. Good people can do bad things. What would tempt you to the dark side?
For me: Going for the max impact, e.g. hacking into the energy grid, shutting down a satellite, disrupting commerce, struck me as overly self indulgent and political. Greed, revenge and envy negates brilliance. Giving the finger, moronic. I chose the least heinus on the list: 'exposing the inferior work of others' ... arrogance would be my motivation. My target would be smartphones. However, going to prison would be a major consideration and massive deterent. Being gifted with a great mind and having it put in storage for 10 years or so, is an inexcusable waste.
Privacy-Rape ! penetrating a system and peeping/stealing/reselling/blackmailing/ransoming valuable or very "private" datas is ABSOLUUUUTE POWAAAA (dixit Darth Sidious) knowledge/infos is power
I don't understand the purpose of this thread. If it's to profiling cyber criminals and their personal businesses, it's the wrong approach. If it's to put cyber criminals into mockery, it's pathetic. If it's to make people have more respect and empathy towards cyber criminals, it just won't work.
How about a bit of fun, which I know can be a strange concept to some people. But back on topic I would go for the arrogance angle i.e. if your stupid enough to let me in and wreck havoc on your system/company then so be it. All the havoc created would be accompanied by the obligatory manic laugh.....of course. Regards Eck
It's usually just money motivated, along with knowing how to make it happen (which could be said about a lot of things).
Fun? Okay then... Since nearly everything in this modern age is controlled by computer systems, I will target military and extraterrestrial assets. I will breach their systems and have a remote access to control those properties as my please. Then I will use assets of country A to attack an area of country B, use assets of country C to attack an area of country D, and so on. The world will fall into chaos, where everyone will find themselves trapped in a blamefest in the voyage of finding who's the one being responsible, raising massive amount of suspicion and everyone will be trying to destroy each other, revealing human's true nature while I am sitting behind the scene, enhancing the success rate of my plan even further by influencing corrupt people to work as my pawns, obfuscating my own role. In the final stage where only a few will survive, I will reach my sole goal which is... ...world domination and a new world order where only quality people deserve a place for a better tomorrow of humanity. ------------------------------ What? Hey don't look at me like that. I'm just following the rule of the game of this thread.
Complete God like power to so anything my mind can imagine, boy, the world would be a different place if i could do that.
Of all the polls to make public. I'd like to write code that would turn the NSA spying machine into a pile of ashes and use Google, MS and a few choice others as kindling. As for money, recognition, or similar goals, not interested. I'd like to take over military, government and LEA drones, then fly them right right back up their own backsides.
More accurately, it is a strange combination of Skynet, Pein, Albert Wesker and modern illuminati portrayal. Although that is a stereotypical villainous speech that has been used by various main antagonists in many works throughout the decades. Still, it's amazing that it never gets old because it gives different impressions depending on the personality of who was saying it.
Who or what is defining good and evil, or light and dark? One groups enemy is another groups hero. Terrorist or freedom fighter? Traitor or revolutionary? For myself, I consider those presently in control to be the "dark side". My initial reply was spontaneous. After more thought (either a case of entertaining bad thoughts or letting them entertain me) I've decided on what I would do. I'd take over the power grid of the entire planet, use it as a giant antenna to transmit a massive EMP, and destroy electronics of all kinds globally. I'd force this world back about a hundred years and make it start over on a more sensible path.
I'm with you, one hundred years is about the right time that's when Socialism and its offspring started their insidious work
Perhaps within the scope of the "You don't share the same belief as ours, therefore you are absolutely wrong and should be exiled from the community. Now get lost already!" policy. It happened on me a few times which suddenly made me such a bad guy for everyone.
@GrafZeppelin Been there, done that. Been fired and blacklisted for taking such a position. My only regret is not pushing the issue further when I had the chance.
good ? evil? neutral ? just a point of view my D&D character was neutral evil pretending being neutral good , i had lot of fun playing it and fooling the others with some insidious schemes ^^
We cant write history with hindsight but perhaps going back a hundred years is not such a bad idea, it could be that this time the cousins (Willy, George and Nicky) would try a little harder to get along with each other and save the World from suffering WWI and communism. Bo
No apology needed. If anyone should apologize, it should be me for not doing more when I had the chance to make a real difference.
