Google Play Games for PC is now available to all players in five countries

Google announced today that Google Play Games for PC, a program that lets users play Android games on Windows, is now available to all users under an open beta in South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and Australia. The company introduced a limited test earlier this year with interested players getting to try out the platform through a waitlist. With the new announcement, they will not have to wait for an invitation.

The limited beta first restricted select players in South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan with expansion to Thailand and Australia in March.

The search giant noted that it is also reducing system requirements so more users can play these games.

The earlier beta mandated players to have a system with at least an eight-core CPU, a “gaming-class GPU” and 20GB of available storage space. The new open beta reduces these requirements to having a four-core CPU, an integrated GPU and 10GB of free storage on the system.

Google said it now has more than 50 PC-compatible game titles for Windows users. Players can start playing a title on a PC, then, using the same Google ID on their Android phone, pick up where they left off.

“In the last few months, we have more than doubled our Google Play Games catalog to 50+ titles, which can be played on Windows PCs via a standalone application built by Google. Our catalog includes many of the most popular mobile games in the world including Summoners War, Cookie Run: Kingdom, Last Fortress: Underground, and Top War. Together, these games are played by hundreds of millions of players globally,” the company said in a blog post.

Google Play Games for PC is now available in 8 more Countries
In August 2022, the Silicon Valley giant soft-launched the Beta for the service to users in Australia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. Today, Google Play Games for PC is available for users in the following regions: Canada, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, and the U.S.

There are a few factors that you should consider. According to Google, the graphics are optimized for bigger screens. Unlike mobile games that you can sideload via WSA or the Amazon Appstore, the games on Google Play Games have been designed to support mouse and keyboard input, which should theoretically be easier to use than a version intended to run on touchscreen devices. While WSA requires Windows 11, Google's app supports Windows 10.

Early user reviews aren't very impressive, people say that games have lags, and some games run in a mobile-screen sized window instead of full screen mode. I have also come across reports that say it doesn't work on AMD computers. The app is not available for Linux and macOS yet.

Let's hope Google Play Games on PC fares better than the ill-fated Stadia.

I think this may be better than BlueStacks and it has a better display quality and full support for keyboard and joysticks.

The only advantage of Blue Stacks is that Google only supports 50 games right now.

I have never tried BlueStacks because it was quite a big download, so it seemed bloated. Not that I'm into mobile gaming, but I wanted to try it since from what I understood they currently have quite good graphics, comparable to Nintendo Switch games.
