Putting malware-ridden Asian websites with weird names at the top of the search results is doing that job just fine. Besides, down ranking is not going to stop pirates. What, Google does not think people look on page two?

Does anyone on Wilders actually still use Google's search engine? I thought most here would prefer DDG, Start Page or similar.

DDG is getting better and better, but I do think for some things Google is still better. That is changing though.

DDG, SP etc are good when you are searching for something well known, something that has results of hundreds or thousands. But I still use google for some low-key searches, if I use others there are almost no results.

That's pretty much why I use it. If you want to find things, you're more likely to find it using Google...

Startpage pulls its results from Google—albeit anonymously—but its image search uses Bing (also anonymously if you choose) which happens to suck, so I occasionally still search with Google Images.

A few rare times out of the year I'll do a Google search if I really can't find anything on DDG or SP, but I really haven't looked back to using those as my main searches. Every computer I work on for someone I usually throw them in their browser's bookmarks, or I even straight up set DDG as their homepage.

For school, I'll search on Google just because Ixquick Search doesn't turn up the sources I need to answer a discussion post or work on a paper. Personally, I don't think this is going to do much to stem the tide of pirating. At the end of the day, consumers are going to pirate your media content, software, etc. If they can't pirate it, then they are going to produce cheap knock-offs. Just look at the iPeds in China.

DDG is often the default search engine anyway now on some browsers, Epiphany and QupZilla come to mind.

I find Start Page just as good as Google, which isn't surprising considering. Oddly, although I tend to agree with you about Google image search, I've often found (Bing) images on Start Page that weren't on Google.

Suppose you search for "celeberrimous" in both Google and Startpage. (It means "very or most highly celebrated")

Currently google shows "About 15,900 results" and startpage "About 228 results". DDG doesnt provide total results so unable to answer.

Are you kidding me, I have been using it from the start. :D

I used to use Yahoo, but I just had to switch to Google because of the super fast delivery of search results, and simple site design. I'm not really worried about Google tracking my search results.

Yeah, I started off with Yahoo! a few years ago. I used Ask Jeeves for a while.

I've added Start Page to it, but it does have DDG.
