Is that a good or a bad thing?

It's a bit of both. Chrome appeals to more people but it alienates users who "need" those specific features.

I was following Chrome very, very closely during versions 5 to 10. The number of hate posts in the Chrome help forum regarding lack of specific features and removal of others would indicate that Chrome was self-destructing. Despite this so-called feedback, the devs went on their merry way, perhaps guided by telemetry data. And, despite the so-called feedback, Chrome just keeps on getting more popular.

Incidentally, various Mozilla pages have references to "we thought of it first" for several features that Chrome added (or removed). Inability to decide prevailed. So having brains is not all; the rest of the kit is needed as well ;)
