Sonic Record Now came installed on both of my machines. It is difficult to close when finished, and sometimes reads the DVD I recorded, and when I put a blank DVD in it runs through the complete cycle, but instead of the disk being recorded the reply is that it could not be read. It ruins the disk. Usually the next disk is recorded OK.

I am wondering if there is a program that I can install that will replace Sonic Record Now?
It will have to be pretty simple.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Check your DVD recorder, look for a firmware update and try using ImgBurn as a recording program.

I am not sure what you mean. I did try to use ImgBurn, but got the same response. I may have selected the incorrect place to save the info to. It went to the Record Now to do that.

Do you mean to save the image of the original disk to the Record Now, and then use the ImgBurn to make the recording?

I am going to check for updates, and see if there are any. This computer is about 3 years old, and the Record Now has had no updates.

You see, I am in the slow group, and need some detailed info. Thanks.

    Regards,
    Jerry

ashampoo burning studio. its awesome and super easy to use. my second choice after imgburn it does everything most could possibly need and my mother can use it lol. once you take the time to learn ingburn its a simply awesome program and can do just about anything you could want. but yes there is a learning curve with it. ashampoo will do everything without as many options but its basically click and go.

    Yes, thanks.

    zfactor,
The main problem is making exact copies of DVDs and CDs. Will Ashampoo do that? Some indicate that they do not make exact copies or copy DVD to DVD. Does that mean that the original is downloaded to your computer and then copied on a blank DVD?

    Thanks for the help.

    Regards,
    Jerry

Hi, didn't know about BurnAware Free until now, so thanks.

    On compare http://www.burnaware.com/products.html
it states the free version does NOT do that.

What kind of copies would we get, if they are not exact ?

they mean 1 to 1 copies. you can copy the disc to the drive and then burn to a new disc. ashampoo will do 1 to 1 copies either on the fly or disc at once or track at once methods

Many thanks to All for the help and advice. It solved my problem.

My 2004 vintage DELL came with Sonic Record Now v6 I think. I constantly make exact copies of CD's with it. You just click on Make exact Copy, and follow the instructions. I can't vouch for DVD/RW disks though, but copying a disk is copying a disk I guess.
