    Ouch! I'm shocked people still use Gmail/Yahoomail and the sort.

    I've actually adopted a policy to not email, or respond to email from anyone using those services. If I get email from one, I wait until I meet them personally to tell them my policy. If I don't know them personally they simply never hear back from me. It's just beyond me why they are still used with the plethora of good, free, secure alternatives.

    Yes this plugin is created for Gmail but technique is possible with any email provider. If loading pictures from external sources in html messages is allowed...

    This assumes that the responder is using the web client.

    If you are using desktop client (outlook...) it still works if you enable downloading pictures automatically. In Outlook 2010 this option is disabled by default.

    Thunderbird doesn't load images by default.
