Is it my imagination or is Ghostery 2.5 not working well? I can't seem to change any settings on it.

Yes, I can't even seem to get the wizard to work! I've uninstalled it on SeaMonkey. The Firefox version is faring no better. :(

I just updated on SeaMonkey 2.1 beta 2 & Ghostery 2.5 appears to be working.

EDIT: My guess is that they've coded this for Firefox 4 which shares some of its architecture with SeaMonkey 2.1. It would be interesting to see if anyone has a problem with Ghostery who is running a Firefox 4 beta. I can't get it to work on SM 2.0.11 or Firefox 3.6.13.

    Hi Fixanoid.

I just upgraded to 2.5 on Firefox. Ghostery itself is active, but on the new settings page everything is unchecked and empty. The list of trackers is also empty. And normally with all trackers blocked, the new trackers from updates should be blocked too automatically, but this isn't the case, in fact it blocks even less than before with 2.4.2. According to the changelog on addons.mozilla.org, 2.4.2 already had 392 bugs and if I recall correctly 2.5 should have something around 480, but if I open the Ghostery menu and hold it on Web Bug Blocking, it shows it's active, but just for 265 bugs.

Hi Boeren, thanks for reporting this issue.

Would you be willing to run a modified version of Ghostery that I'll send you to help me debug the issue? If so, please email me: felix-at-evidon.com

    Hi Fixanoid,

I noticed that on your GetSatisfaction forum someone already helped with the special debug build, do you still need help?

Nice, 2.5.1 fixes it for me :) Btw, Ghostery doesn't detect a tracker anymore inside Hotmail inbox, while it always did before.

EDIT: The options from the performance tab are not on the new options page like GhosteryLite mode, scanning for dynamically inserted page elements(maybe that's the one why hotmail tracker is not detected), blocking iFrames from the bug domain etc.

EDIT2: I just tested with Hotmail again, Ghostery only detects the tracker MSN Ads when not using full session SSL, same with 2.4.2, while it did in the past, so it seems Microsoft removes the tracker when using full sessions SSL, could you check if that's correct?

I wish it were for me. 2.5 on FF 3.6.13 brings about lots of page load stalling, stutters with streams/interactive content, and general surfing slowdowns. Disabling it brings back normal operation.

Yes, I may have spoken too soon. It seems to be working fine on SeaMonkey 2.1 beta 2 but I find that I cannot unblock my Google Widgets on my iGoogle page on SM 2.0.11. Firefox 3.6.13 also seems to be OK, although to be honest I don't use it much & Firefox always seems a bit sluggish on my laptop. It seems to be OK on my desktop. I'll have to surf a bit more with it & I will see if Ghostery is causing any problems. Roll on Ghostery 2.5.2 I say! I'm just glad Iron is in one of its bug-free phases (touch wood).

After removing, re-installing and finding no difference, I gave up for the time being. *shrug* Perhaps with Noscript and AdBlock Plus lists, it was redundant anyway.

I also noticed a slight but noticeable slowdown with the new version. Also, some cpu spikes when scrolling on certain pages. FF 3.6.13/ubuntu 10.04.

Ghostery tends to go through these phases. I think it's known as progress. ;)

I may uninstall it from Fx 3.6.13 & SM 2.0.11 as well. I think they have concentrated on getting it ready for Firefox 4 (hence it works well with the SeaMonkey 2.1 beta 2) & have neglected the stable releases somewhat. I just hope they don't try & improve the Chrome version for a while.

    Yay! :D

    They've fixed Ghostery!

Well, it seems to be working fine on SeaMonkey 2.0.11 :thumb:

....& now to see if it works in Firefox ...

EDIT: It seems to be working fine in Firefox 3.6.13. @dw426, I think it is safe to re-install now mate ... :thumb: (Hopefully)

    @Daveski

Cannot vouch for whether things are fixed as I have not noticed the 'issue' but am running v2.5.2 and all seems normal in terms of functionality & performance.

    :D

Many people had definite issues with Ghostery 2.5/2.5.1 running Firefox 3.6 & SeaMonkey 2. Oddly, Fx 4 beta & SM 2.1 beta were not affected by the update.

2.5.2 does seem to have fixed the bugs. :)

Yeah, it's nice to have Ghostery back.
