Is it normal when I right click a 1GB zipped file, it takes 30 minutes for the context menu to show up?

    Hi,

Just installed its free version. But....

It is not really a free at all. This is why:

It has a expiry date; 08-08-2008.

What is going on ? Misleading advertisement ? needing some clarification here.

    Take care.

downloaded and messing around with it now. so far so good :thumb:

    @perman

i've been using geswall free forever now, it never expires. i think the license date means that's when the developers see themselves issuing a new version of geswall. geswall 2.6 license expired before geswall 2.7 was ready to be released and the devs uploaded an extended license for 2.6 till 2.7 was out of beta and ready for download.

    Hi, Zopzop:

    Thanks for the info.

Runs very smoothly. No conflicts, no slowdown. Perhaps a keeper too.

hmmm i just noticed something with geswall, but i don't know if it's a bug or not. when i copy and paste an isolated file, the copied file isn't isolated. is this supposed to work that way?

Read page 16 of userguide.pdf (included with installation).

    Yes, it is I think!

Copy and cut and paste to other partition/ drive will remove GW isolation tag.
Cut and paste to same partition/ drive will keep the tag.

However i will ask them what is the philosophy behind this.

Philosophy is found on the same page, which is copied below:

GeSWall preserves the labels on files for their life time and in case of the
    following operations:
    · file renaming
    · moving file to the folder on the same volume

"Untrusted" labels are cleaned on a copy operation from non-isolated application, because a new copied file is created by non-isolated application, which performs this operation. The same semantic is applied to the windows file attributes. For example, an encrypted file can be stored unencrypted if copied to unencrypted folder.

I upgraded to v2.7.1 without first uninstalling v2.6 and it says an error occured during installation. I ran the installer again and repaired GeSWall, this time it asked me to reboot to complete installation.

After reboot, whenever I click Isolated Applications, a window will show up saying there's an error executing scripts and nothing happens, no matter what I choose.

Uninstall it and do a clean reinstall. I never install it over older version.

I lost all my rules when I uninstalled v2.5 last time. Brian even advised me not to uninstall and just upgrade instead.

    C:\Program files\GesWall\geswall.dat

It contains all rules. Just make a copy of old .dat file and replace the new .dat file with this one, u will get all ur rules back.( it,s just my experience, not official).

But I did not do it as I think there was some change in defaule rules for GW.
So better to have a clean install.

Things just got even worse when I tried uninstalling GeSWall.

You can see that the uninstallation failed. Tried a few times but didn't work.

Tried Repair from the running the installer again and this error shows up. I'm using administrator account and also tried starting the service manually, nothing.

There's no more Change or Remove button in Add/Remove Programs for both v2.6 and 2.7.1

Now my system is completely unprotected.:thumbd:

Yes, but it says Windows installer can't run in safe mode.

Sent a mail to Brian. Hoping to get a reply soon since I feel naked without GeSWall.

    That,s right.
Better to post on their forums too.

By the which installer u are using to uninstall, 2.7 or 2.6. Try another repair and then uninstall via installer of latest version, 2.7.

    Hi, folks:

Decided to uninstall it due to the facts that (1) not happy with FreeVersion's limited features and (2) not very good value return with its full version. Then

    Nightmare strikes:

    (1) unable to uninstall in SafeMode (2) A lot, a lot of leftovers, especially in registry, after using its built-in uninstaller.

For these, I would never try its newer version; and will convey the very same message to my acquaintances.

    Take care and good luck.
