I just wanted to make sure that my procedure was correct so I thought I would ask the experts here.

    First, a little history.
I have instead a PDF writer, unchecked the suggested toolbar, but I am concerned about how to check in case it installs anyway. I do not feel there is any reason to mention the name, but like a lot of free products, it will ask to install the Ask toolbar. My problem is I can find more than a few threads stating even when the boxes are unchecked, that it will go ahead and install anyway. I do not have the knowledge to check my system 100% for this, hence, my question.
I have done the following to check for the toolbar:

    1. File and folder search for “ask.com”.
    2. Registry search for “ask.com”.
    3. Opened IE10 and Firefox to check for the toolbar.
    4. Looked in “Add and Remove a Program” for anything new.

After performing the above, I cannot find any mention of the toolbar.

What else should a person do, if anything, after installing a product like this?
    Thank you.

No expert i'm afraid so probably better ways than this.
You could run a search with AdwCleaner. The report will tell you if any toolbars are hiding away somewhere.
