This possibly belongs in a different forum, but as it is a general question I put it here.

Recently I was going to access the internet from someone else's computer, but I noticed that some things didn't look quite right about the browser. Just on a hunch I hit ctrl-alt-del to launch the taskmgr.exe and I was confronted with something new to me. When the window popped up all it showed was the list of running applications, there were no options to see processes, performance, and no menus were accessible so that changing views, or options were not an option.

Apparently there has been some sort of search hijacker that has been around for a long time that causes this to happen. But it also occurred to me that someone may want to block access to the task manager for whatever reason. I know that it can be blocked, but I never heard of a program that would block it this way, which blocks, without explicitly saying you are being blocked. This is more subtle. Has anyone heard of such a thing?

The border? You mean the side, or the bottom? I did double click the bar on top, but who knows, maybe I am just clicking too fast, or too slow. Anyway, I'd never seen it like that before. Is it a customization, or just something

LOL! I just tried it on my taskmgr, and you're right! How funny! Well, live and learn!

Yep, an absolutely useless feature of XP that has caught quite a few unawares, myself included.:D

Try this one for IE 6, don't know if IE 7 is the same.
Go to Sart - Run and type " iexplore -k " no quotes.

This gets rid of toolbars, address bar, even the task bar.The only
thing you can do is click and search.

The only way to exit IE is ctrl/alt/del task manager then End Task.

    Hey Franklin!

Another great hidden feature! You must be a Power User to know that one. I suppose the k stands for "Knock Out!"

...it just could come in handy some day, I'll make a note of it!

P.S. - I wonder....IE-7 has tabbed browsing...maybe you could open another tab? I haven't used it, so I may never know...

Don't worry, that got me too a year or two ago. :D

Had me running security software right away. Haven't found a use for it though. I don't think there's any.
