Giveaway of the Day - Anti-Virus Mate

Has anyone ever heard of or used this? The reviews at GAOTD are among the worst I have seen.

When I started this thread, I wanted to share the "laugh" I had when I read the GAOTD, but I would like to hear if anyone knows anything about this, good or bad. I believe the participants on this thread can probably provide a good appraisal.

Note: Just realized that WOT rates their website really poorly...Bright Red!!

    .
Never heard of this one. Here's a link for the home page. I would hesitate to use a security product that wasn't eligible for upgrades or tech support (standard GAOTD policy).

    Same style

They also offer a free portable "antivirus mate"

~ VirusTotal link removed per Policy ~

    AVG 9.0.0.730 2010.02.19 SHeur.CJSY
    DrWeb 5.0.1.12222 2010.02.19 BACKDOOR.Trojan
    Ikarus T3.1.1.80.0 2010.02.19 Trojan.Win32.SuspectCRC
    K7AntiVirus 7.10.977 2010.02.18 Trojan.Win32.Malware.1
    McAfee+Artemis 5897 2010.02.19 Artemis!F7F92BA903E7
    Symantec 20091.2.0.41 2010.02.19 Suspicious.Insight

I scanned it with a-squared free which also detects it as

    C:\Users\leofelix\Desktop\avmfree.zip/avmfree.exe rilevati: Trojan.Win32.SuspectCRC!IK

Maybe false positives, however I wouldn't run any risk

Evonsoft is indeed linked with IObit, infact the programs are so similar that they could very well have been made by the same developers.

    Have a look at this:

    http://www.evonsoft.com/advanced-spyware-remover-upgrade.htm

Evonsoft has also been discussed at Iobit's forums......

As for WinAVM, hmm.......I am not sure what to say, except "don't use it"......

I agree: better to stay away from such kind of software.
Even comments on GOTD stream speak clearly

had running it in the sandbox(ie) - useless program if you know some alternatives.
Its like WinPatrol pro or Malware Defender - anyway all paid - but never comparable.

So the name "Mate" tells all - its just an addition to other important software.

I think its not that GAOTD "found" ATM but ATM contacted GAOTD to include their product in the giveaways for promotion purposes.

I think you are right, GOTD often promotes some unheard software.
    Especially some crap like this.
