G-Data, the best least-used Antivirus / Internet Security product at Wilders.

I'm not beholden to G-Data as "my product" as I run six different AVs in my household. But it is one of my two favorite AV products at this time.

G-Data has rapidly evolved to become a great product... one of the best AVs.

I give Wilders credit for alerting me to G-Data. I would have never noticed it until Wilders user S&M_Unlimited put together a great comprehensive Cumulative AV Ranking for 2010.

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/roundup-of-antivirus-tests-2010-final.291821/

He took the data from ALL of the major testing organizations and compiled it which produced overall rankings for the year.

And #1 in both "On Demand" and "Retrospective" was G-Data. G-Data finished 3rd overall in his ranking.

And I thought.... hmmmm... how have I missed this product?

And G-Data has ranked or rated very competitively ever since. Like all AV products, it is not perfect. But it has evolved rapidly -- and it's pretty darn good.

    A few recent G-Data highlights:

G DATA eighth victory in comparative test Consumers
G DATA INTERNET SECURITY again 'Best in Test'

Badhoevedorp, January 7, 2015 The Consumer Association has, like every year, conducted an extensive test of security software. There were 18 packages examined. For the eighth time since its first participation in 2005, G DATA INTERNET SECURITY was awarded "Best of the Test."

    Bronze Award: G Data AntiVirus

Born in Germany, this piece of antivirus software exhibits the unquestionable reliability which is traditionally inherent to other stuff hailing from there. Streamlined user interface with nothing redundant is what catches the eye at first sight. How about protection? It’s solid enough for the program to rank in the top three, delivering highly effective defenses against viruses, reliable file monitoring, instant email protection, secure e-banking and shopping features, as well as a cool technology for exploit protection. G Data - It's all about the sicher.

EU Research Group Names G DATA most Innovative Cyber Security Company
EU community project IPACSO (Innovation Framework for Privacy and Cyber Security Market Opportunities) honoured IT security companies and technologies from all over Europe for the first time this year. In the "Innovative Cyber Security Company" category, the jury consisting of researchers and companies named G DATA as the most innovative IT security provider in Europe. In their reasoning, the jurors commended the creative inventiveness and the quick reactions to new cyber threats. According to IPACSO, a prime example of this is G DATA's technological response to the Bad-USB threat scenario. The German IT security company was the only provider worldwide to immediately develop an effective security tool: USB Keyboard Guard.

And all of these results are from the last few months.

Is there another AV product that has been awarded as much in the last few months?

There are only a few of us enlightened G-Data users at Wilders -- but with continued product success, I would expect that to grow.

    Your Welcome,

**I am not involved with G-Data in any way officially or unofficially. I just like the product. There are other AVs I also like -- but this one gets the least attention.

I love Gdata, but had FP's, and some 'chatty' issues with it, and some slowdowns. Any tips?

I'd like to give it a run again, maybe if I find a good sale...

I worked for a Gdata branch many many years ago as a QC Engineer, and Analyst. That was when it was the first dual engine AV in the world, and almost nobody heard of it. It used Kaspersky+RAV (Reliable Antivirus) back then, and was gorgeous looking.

My tip would be to try it again. As you probably know, G-Data evolves more continuously than most products. They don't save everything for major product updates.

I admit, G-Data is not the greatest value... but not the worst either. But I'd like you to try it again... with your history with the product and your demonstrated Wilders ability to fairly assess products.

Interesting G-Data trivia -- Kaspersky+RAV engines. And "first dual engine AV in the world." Good stuff (that I didn't know).

You probably have better contacts than the rest of us to get the product comp'ed or discounted..

Good Evening! The newest Version of G-Data has eliminated it's bloat factor. I'm so impressed it's now my Internet Security Suite of Choice. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for rock solid protection...without unnecessary features that other products incorporate in sometimes deceptive Marketing Assertions. They have incorporated Cacheing and Digital Fingerprinting to substantially reduce Scanning Times...as well as providing Useful features such as Bank Guard and Anti-Keylogging in the Suite...for a meaningful Peace Of Mind Quotient. Sincerely...Securon

    My experience with G-Data was...
•US customers took a back, way back seat to updates.
•The forum was hosted by some third party, in Germany, in German, where with google translate we found out... US customers take a back seat to everything.
    •My emails didn’t get answered.
•A branch opened in the US and some rep posted up here and then vanished a short time later.

That was years ago. If things have changed I would be more than willing to part with the money for the product as I believe its reputation is deserved.

I’m reluctant to get dumped on again.

    Cheers.

Holy Cow FOXP2, I didn't know about that stuff. I've used G-Data for just under a year and have been impressed.

And I've only contacted G-Data US once, but they emailed me back the next day. So I thought the customer service was good. But of course that is a tiny data sample of one.

The vanishing G-Data rep... That apparently was under my Wilders radar. But that's pretty lame. But many AVs don't have reps here... so that one is undesirable, but ok.

And US customers taking a back seat... yeah, that would be really annoying. Why would them Germans diss us that way? We need FleischmannTV to explain this, to get to the bottom of this.

Ok, FOX is good with the product, but bad with the service and dissing.

There are not many G-Data users here, but we need their input on this.

My praise of this product will be more subdued if these are ongoing issues.

I believe G-Data has a good product but is very slow with support and bugfixing, which is a problem. On a purely protection level, however, it can be trusted (IMO).

I just tried both the 2014 and 2015 versions. I had not used G-Data for at least a few years (I've used every major antivirus at some point). I removed it due to it causing problems with Explorer in Windows 10. While, I did not use it long enough to gauge its performance very well, in the brief time it was installed, it certainly seemed to be light on my old laptop. I liked that there was a performance setting for slower computers - which I selected.

I originally installed the 2014 due to a 3 month trial offer I found. It did not function properly under Windows 10, with a full scan not detecting anything, and a subsequent context menu scan on my Downloads folder not scanning anything. I was dissapointed that the check for program updates did not find an update to the 2015 version. However, on the positive side, when downloaded and installed the 2015 version, the installer upgraded my install without needing the 2014 version to be removed first.

The scans worked fine in the 2015 version. If I was running and older version of Windows I would given this a decent test as it looks promising, and quite light despite having the dual av engines.

Good Morning! Frank! Just to fill in the historical data in regards too G-Data. I originally was outright put off with G-Data's Customer Service...and I'm being polite in my assessment! I entered at this forum some fairly scathing feedback in regards to their lack of concern and timely input with their customer base. But somebody possibly at head office took my posts about not having an American Head Office Presence seriously, and set up an affliate office either in North or South Carolina which later relocated to Atlanta Georgia...and so far has done in my eyes a fairly adequate job in addressing and resolving Customer issues. Now the former employee in mention was the appointed head of Sales by G-Data I believe for N.America...but has since left and is selling the last I heard a Competitors Product. G-Data is a smaller firm and is sold internationally...so we tend too forget as consumers because of it's market reach...the reality is it originates from the Midsize German City of Bochum 373,976 (2012). The market due to Recession in some parts of the Globe is Ultra Competitive and being in a Niche market and European, these factors at the moment are fraught with their own challenges. So if you feel strongly enough; always advocate to advance your rights as a Consumer...and I feel Wilders gives us a splendid license to do so. Stay Sicher my Friends...Lol! Sincerely...Securon

I tried the trial version of G-Data TP 2015 for a few days and I agree the protection is quite good but I had a couple of issues. One is the time it takes for G-Data to come up in the system tray is almost 30 seconds after reaching the Windows 7 desktop. That's with 8GB's of RAM. Is there protection at boot even though it takes a short coffee break to finally show itself? The other issue is 8 different processes running in Windows Services. Granted not all at the same time I believe but still significant. It's so difficult to tell who will or will not have issues with a product like G-Data because hardware, OS's and configurations vary so much. I like it but compared to Eset SS it feels too heavy for me. In spite of my own issues I can see how this package could be very attractive especially as an alternative to say Emsisoft IS. :thumb:

Guys, how does G DATA deal with reinstallations? I like the fact that NOD32 allows me to reinstall it as much as I want provided it's on the same laptop, does G DATA allow this or is it strict like Kaspersky a few activations and bam, the license is blacklisted?

First impressions, not as heavy as some have said. Certainly doesn't slow down my web browsing or streaming videos as well which is a plus and it doesn't need an extension in the toolbar to work.

The GUI is nice, although I would've loved if while adding exclusions, it showed all system files including the system hidden ones like Kaspersky and NOD32 do I had to temporarily show system hidden files then hide them again just to add an exclusion. Not a show stopper.

Did my first scan and I am surprised to these FPs, legit software, nothing cracked. What's even more confusion, is it says LOG ONLY as the action, what is log only? what does that do? there is no option to exclude them from future scans, just log only or delete or ignore.

    1) Active-UNDELETE.ISO is the ISO which I downloaded from my ACTIVE@ UNDELETE program which is a paid and reputed software for undeleting files

    2) Cyberlink Media Esperesso, I got that as a bundle from Cyberlink when I bought PowerDVD 14 Ultra, don't know what would trigger such a detection. Very aggressive.

    3) That's a detection related to my game FIFA 15 which was purchased through Origin

    4) Media Espresso again on the external backup drive

@Mortal Raptor the lack of an easy way to prompt for what action to take when a threat is found or to ignore threats is a big issue for me. I think developers of paid security solutions need to do a lot more work on the user interface of their software. 360 Internet Security can prompt for what action to take when a threat is found, and it takes just one click to ignore found items, and of course it is free.

Righ, so check this, I wanted to upload one of the FPs to their online submission form, so I went to the location where it is:

    "C:\Users\MaXimus\AppData\Local\NVIDIA\NvBackend\Packages\000065d9"

The moment I accessed that folder, it said access denied on the bottom right that the file is infected. So I though no problem, I surely must find an option to ignore or add it to exclusions from the drop down list. Nope, all you get is disinfect or delete! Great!

    Uninstalled this garbage right away.

I called their international customer service hotline and I got the most unprofessional guy on the other line. I told him I wanted a refund, he took the order number and was like ok it will be done within a few weeks! Wow! what a vague answer! few weeks to get a refund! So I'm like, will I get a notification that this has been done or what? he said no! you will just see the money back in your account! he didn't even bother to ask me why did I wanna refund it!

Yes that's the only options you will get.

You really should have tested it more before buying it. My understanding is that it comes as a 30 day trial. There really there is no need to purchase it before the trial is over. Also, there is an ongoing offer where you can get a 3 month trial of G Data 2014. Once installed, you can run the 2015 installer and it it will upgrade the 2014 version to 2015. So, you end up with a 3 month trial of G Data 2015.

It makes sense to thoroughly test any security software before buying it. Not just because of your experience with G Data, but, some antiviruses may be light at first, but over time you may find instances where they slow down your computer a lot. If you take advantage of the trial period you can find such problems before you part with you money.

True that, it's my mistake. Since there was a lot of positive feedback lately on this forum about how G DATA has improved I blindly bought it especially when they had it in bold 14 day money back guarantee so.

PS: I did try it for about an hour but never ran the scan, hence why I never noticed this issue before about crazy FPs, seems like it's only Kaspersky and NOD32 these days that don't have so many FPs which prevent you from using your computer. and if anyone is wondering, I am fine with adding an exclusion here or there, but with so many FPs, unacceptable to meh
