Aren't they a bit late?
I haven't seen screen lockers, in the wild, for a least one year.

lock screen ransomware makes a comeback dated from march this year, and (you must like this one) "cat loving ransomeware" from august this year

 

Forgot to mention, that I meant Windows screen lockers, while "cat loving ransomware" is for Android.

Also the linked article says:
"Trend Micro stats from earlier this year found that crypto-ransomware variants accounted for 100% of UK enterprise infections in February and 99% in January, for example."

So where does the comeback happen?
On Android phones? Yes, it happens now and then...

 

The article is from March, so it mentions stats of jan and feb. I am not telling you are wrong, just pointed to article because you said you had not seen them in the wild for at least a year.
