For admins, and those of you with mail servers:

GFI is offering a freeware version of their Exchange/Mail Server antivirus, due to the large number of viruses lately. It is a 60 day trial, but the engine and updates will continue to work after the expiration.

Here's more info from the website. Links embedded:

"Features available in the freeware version:
    1. Scanning inbound and outbound mail using a single anti-virus engine - can be used as additional protection by companies who do not yet perform virus scanning at mail sever level or at the gateway, and by those who run just one anti-virus engine.
    2. Checking message bodies and subjects for keywords - can be used to detect inappropriate mail.

    1. Scanning email using a single anti-virus engine

The freeware version of GFI MailSecurity offers server/gateway-level anti-virus protection. It includes the BitDefender anti-virus engine, a fast and flexible virus engine that excels in the number of formats it can recognize and scan. BitDefender is ICSA certified and has won the 100% Virus Bulletin award and the European Information Technologies Prize 2002. GFI MailSecurity automatically updates the BitDefender definition files as new ones become available.

The freeware version will help administrators who do not have the budget to implement scanning at the gateway or at mail server level, or who cannot invest in a multiple virus engine solution. The advantages for companies that do not use mail server level or gateway anti-virus scanning are self-evident. However, through this free offer, companies that have server-level scanning with a single virus engine can now discover the benefits of using multiple virus engines instead: The freeware version of GFI MailSecurity will enable them to beef up their network security at no extra cost. Information on how multiple anti-virus engines at mail server/gateway level improve network security is available at this GFI white paper: http://www.gfi.com/mailsecurity/wpmultiplevirusengines.htm.

    2. Checking message bodies and subjects for keywords
Through its keyword checking feature, the freeware version can scan the message bodies and subjects of incoming and outgoing email for offensive content, information leaks and other inappropriate email.

    Obtaining the freeware version
The freeware version can be downloaded from http://www.gfisoftware.com/downloads/downloads.asp?pid=4&lid=1. The download is a trial version of GFI MailSecurity (15Mb), however the single anti-virus engine and keyword checking features remain active after the 60-day evaluation period."
