I thought the defragger that comes with XP is a "lite" version of Diskkeeper. Didn't Microsoft simply license the use of the basic defragging engine from Executive Software?

You are right about MS licensing the software. However I think it is more accurate to call the one with MS ultra-light or maybe super light.

Diskkeeper Lite is pretty much the same as the pro version, about 10-100x faster than the default one with XP, it lacks a few of the pro features with regards to smart scheduling, but it's still a cut above the standard XP one.

Is it really that much faster? I usually defrag when I'm finished with a session at the computer anyway. But, all the same, maybe I should try something else.

Er that 10x-100x is marketing claim I read somewhere. I've personally never done head to head tests to see if it's true.

I guess the speed/efficency thing will be greater the less free space you have.
