    BitDefender Free
    Antivir Personal
    AVG Free
    Avast Home

Hi, which of them produces advertising and spam windows?
    I hate these writings.
In your opinion which is better?
    Thanks for some info

avast has a 'news' sort of thing when it updates(it's not bad, the window is in the bottom right letting you know it updated, and disappears shortly after)

avira was always bad about spamming you(every update i believe it has a popup window)

You can also completelly hide update popups so you won't ever see anything. Something others don't offer.

Bitdefender Free produces no advertising but it has no restore function for quarantined files. AVG has an ad at the bottom but you can easily disable it, I don't know much about Avast.

Avira is the spam king: Pop up, tool bars, ask bar, advertisment for registry booster and so on ... I will never ever install Avira again.

Avast has some small ad,s but you cannot blame them for this as they need to advertise somewhere.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
    Out of curiosity:
if I will buy Bitdefender Total Security, can I choose which tool to install? In other words is it possible to install the AV only?
    Thanks

If you're only intending to use the AV you would be better off buying Bitdefender antivirus plus.

Before you buy any package from any vendor, check what features you will ge so you don't need to disable them, and you may never even use them at all.

So if you just want the AV then buy that, or the IS if you want FW and Antispam etc...

Yeah, it shows up eventually. I stopped using Avira a long time ago for that reason. It's unacceptable to me... too much nonsense, and too many other good free alternatives now.

Personal experience is always the best way to go.
Reviews, opinions and hearsay by their very nature are mixed.

If we were to take the mixed opinions and reviews of all products seriously then i doubt we would ever install anything.:)

Looks like Avira is creating a reputation of its own. I wonder if their business model is working out.

I doubt Avira is bothered about a handful of wilders posters :D
We shall see. To be honest , I always thought Avira, was a top notch AV, and still do :)
I now have Avira free on two machines. One has the registry fix, so has the webguard, and absolutely no pop ups/nags whatsoever.
The other has one pop up at boot , and requires one click to close. Big deal
People should stop continually whining about Avira ,if you don't like it , don't use it

it is a very good AV but lacks some basic configuration and i dont know about anyone else but it destroys my ping but the URL filter is seriously superb :thumb:

i have installed it on all my family/cousins pc's as i feel the URL filter will protect them from alot more things then just malware ;)

i think in the old version you could just install the web filter but in this new version you have to install the whole program

Not really seen much on this program.

Not a bad offering though considering its free.
