A few minutes ago I grabbed my phone and opened chrome to read Wilders. Suddenly a message pops up asking to install a Wilders app.
I seen something similar for CCleaner and the BBC this morning (offering to install an app) when I landed on the page for first time. Will try and look into it further later.
This was on a desktop in Vivaldi. I'm not too bothered about it as I think it may have been happening for a while (if we are talking about the same thing) Perhaps something like this? https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/132src6/how_can_i_get_reddits_mobile_website_to_stop/ Never seen a Wilders one.
It happened once, I'm on my desktop computer right now and went to check again my phone, it didn't happen. Next time, if it pops up again I'll take screenshot.
I see these things all the time when I read news on my Android Phone but I keep clicking no. Why would anyone want to install apps for every site or news sites? I don't. But I never seen a pop-up for a Wilders app.
Why does a Super Moderator need to search this on Google and present an AI answer? Don't the owners of this site inform you about this? (The introduction of an app, if that really is the case)
It should be clear to long time members that if such an app existed, you would know about here first.
See Ron's post for the answer: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/forum-offered-me-to-install-its-app.455334/#post-3213538 However, the reason why I searched in Google is evident in Mr. X's first post, using Google Chrome.
This isn't something we're specifically doing. Chrome on Android can offer to turn any website into an "app". They aren't real apps. They're just icons added to the phone that are basically bookmarks. They use the website logos to brand them. And, when you click on one of those apps, it opens a dedicated Chrome session back to the website. For those not being offered these automatically on your phones, you can force it by using the dots menu at upper right. There's an option "Add to Home screen" that does this same function. Clicking that gives you the same kind of install dialog, with the "My app" thing... I don't know why Chrome sometimes offers it automatically vs making others do it manually. Maybe a phone or browser setting? I just went to Target and did the same process. Now I have both WSF and Target as "apps" on my phone.
Found links about that function. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US...web_apps/Guides/What_is_a_progressive_web_app https://www.androidpolice.com/any-website-pwa-chrome-124/ https://www.howtogeek.com/how-to-turn-any-website-into-an-android-app-and-why-you-should/
