IM a lot during the Summer months while away using laptop or similar device ?
If you run Windows Live Messenger, follow this solution to make instant messaging safer for all.
How do I configure Windows Live Messenger to scan incoming files?

Enjoy your summer and surf safe :)

Pointless waste of time all AV's scan in real time newly created files.

Good ESET KB for new users, IMO. :shifty:

Additionally , the web-access protection scans the IM software's HTTP traffic .

No matter when or how long IM is used , if the real-time protection is active , additional command line scanning is useless . You are supposed to know this , siljaline.

Alright, I should know this, yet again why is the ESET KB available, then ?
It was a kindly gesture for those than IM a lot and should look for a solution to better protectect themselves.
    I stand corrected.

    Yep . But ...
There are quite a lot of things on this planet (including in ESET's house) that have no (practical) explanation and are done "just for the sport and practise".

This option and article just gives peace of mind to those using IM software , it gives them no additional protection at all . The option has been integrated because of the marketing - the average Joe wants "IM protection" just what Symantec and McAfee offers him . There is no way for ESET to sell a product (generally used from more IT-savvy people) to the average Joe without such pointless extras such as IM command line scanning.

It is the message "You are secured" that sells , not the fact that you are secured . Get it? :)

Yep, get it ;) Yet Personal Opinion, once your Marketing Department drives the Company you no longer have a company.
Appreciate the feedback ASpace, noted. Mods may delete this thread a suited to the board.

So with the statements that additional IM protection is useless with IMs....what do those say about additional POP3/MAPI e-mail client protection, and/or web browser protection?

The IM protection is included in the web-access protection (email client protection) . Isn't it true that EAV/ESS scans IM software's traffic ?

    Hello,

Some instant messaging clients do not allow users to transfer files (or restrict file transfers to certain extensions) until an antivirus program has been specified in their configuration.

    Regards,
