The Federal Bureau of Investigation said on Friday that security officials at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium are already “inundated” with drones, and the agency has confiscated at least six so far.
The pilots could face “significant fine and/or jail time” for violating the temporary flight restriction, though no arrests have been made, according to Kevin Rowson, the public affairs specialist for the FBI’s Atlanta field office.

Another company called Fortem Technologies has applied to test a different kind of drone-hunting solution at the Super Bowl, Harris reports. Fortem’s tech involves more radar detectors than Echodyne’s, but it also includes predatory drones.

The company has equipped its own hexacopters with the ability to “detect, track and classify other drones” according to the filing, and — with permission from local authorities — chase them down and capture them with an onboard “net gun and tethering system.”

Dubai International Airport (DXB) was shut down and all flights were grounded for roughly 30 minutes this morning after a drone was spotted in the area, Dubai Media Office reported on Twitter.

“Dubai Airports confirms that operations at Dubai International are back to normal after less than 30 minutes of delay due to unauthorized drone activity,” Dubai Media Office tweeted. The airport was shut down from between 10:13 am and 10:45 am local time, according to Business Insider.

As the weight goes up — one company is testing at 13 pounds — a fast-moving drone becomes more dangerous. Over time, middleweight business drones could outnumber the amateur-flown featherweights. One credible estimate predicts that in 20 years the U.S. will have at least 8 million drone deliveries a day.

Other researchers had already started evaluating the danger of a heavier drone falling or going out of control, however, and the news was less cheering.
Writing in the Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, the researchers reported that models over 15 pounds had a higher than 50 percent risk of inflicting serious injury to the head and neck.

When a corporation set its mind to introducing a disruptive technology, it can seem like the unstoppable march of progress — whether society wants it or not.

In the small bush suburb of Bonython on the outskirts of Canberra, residents have made their thoughts and feelings clear.

Google's parent company Alphabet has been testing its next revolutionary technology in their suburb, flying drones over Bonython homes to deliver coffee, burritos and medication.

The year-long trial, Project Wing, wrapped up last week; now the company has set its sights on launching the world's first commercial delivery drone operation in urban Canberra before June.

Angry Bonython locals told a local Government inquiry the invasive drones had brought people to tears, and residents had openly confessed to police if something was not done, they would take it upon themselves to shoot the winged couriers down.

UPS is teaming up with autonomous delivery drone startup Matternet to experiment with using drones to deliver medical supplies, the companies announced on Tuesday. Starting today, the supplies will be delivered via Matternet’s M2 quadcopters to WakeMed hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The announcement follows a pilot in August 2018 as part of the FAA’s Unmanned Aircraft System Integration Pilot Program. Matternet, based in Menlo Park, California, has previously conducted drone delivery experiments in Switzerland along with Mercedes-Benz.

UPS, in particular, is interested in using drones to deliver health care products.
For its part, Matternet says it has already completed more than 3,000 flights for health care systems in Switzerland.
